For most of the year, the cemetery is bright with flowers left for loved ones and canopied by flowered trees or autumn leaves. Although still holding burials for current deed holders, Fairview no longer has lots available for sale.

Ownership of Fairview was vested in the lot holders. Each lot purchased carried with it a voting right for officers and ownership in all lands unsold. Fairview cemetery was solemnly dedicated on September 24, By the turn of the century the cemetery had increased in size to 75 acres through the purchase of neighboring farmlands.

To develop the newly acquired land, topographical maps and a detailed engineering plan were needed. There were many interviews with various engineers and information was received from well known cemeteries, such as Greenwood in Brooklyn and Woodlawn of New York. By the end of the firm of Jacob L. Bauer of Elizabeth was selected to provide topographical maps and the firm of F.

Ham of Cranford was selected to perform the engineering work necessary for a general plan showing roads, paths, drives and general divisions with drainage of water. Downing Vaux was a predecessor of the Olmsted Brothers Firm. Correspondence also shows that in the then Olmsted Brothers Firm was again contacted for design landscaping services and visited the Cemetery. Mark Your Arrangements : The cemetery office receives several calls during the year looking for flower arrangements that blow away during windy conditions. We hold those items approximately one week next to our storage building.

If an identification tag can be affixed to the arrangements as the name appears on the monument , Cemetery Staff will do their best to see that the arrangement is placed back on the correct monuments. Inclement Weather : During inclement weather the cemetery gates will be closed until all ice, snow and other debris causing unsafe conditions in the cemetery can be cleared from the roads in the cemetery. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Pets : All pets must be confined to designated roads, avenues and walkways and must be on a leash.

What are your hours and days for burials? Burials are scheduled between am to pm Monday to Friday. Saturday burials incur an additional charge and are scheduled between am and am.

There are no Saturday afternoon burials and no Sunday burials. There are no burials on the holidays listed. What can I plant at a gravesite? Rules vary according to section and type of property.
