You go from Superior SPider man to worldwide, but there are more amazing spider man in between, by Slott, paperluck etc.
He even states it in the reading order. How on Earth are we supposed to order these comics without him? Great list. Anyway I really appreciate your site and your efforts. Last night my 9 year old son asked me for a movie to watch. We tossed around a few ideas, and came down to his never having seen the Raimi Spider-man movies. So I pulled up the fist for him, and I was quickly pulled in to it too. Loved it all over again. So right away I wanted to read me some Spidey.
But frankly? So eventually I kept going. And I am a little old school, so Slott does not do it for me. And suddenly I am reading modern Spider-Man again.
Hi Thank you so much for this guide!! Thank you so much for all these Amazing guides i am enjoying comics a lot. I want to know if they are stand-alone?
Or do you need to have read up on Spider-Verse or something else to grasp the gist of it? Spider-Verse will provide some background for Spider-Gwen. I think the pulse issues lead right into the Marvel Knights story line as its in the Pulse that Norman Osborn is finally unmasked and confirmed to be the green goblin, thus put away in a jail cell for Marvel Knights Spider Man.
Keep up the good work. Thanks, and enjoy the comics! Another reading order! Another one! Yet another reading order to help me on my web-swinging journey! Thank you! I just have a question about the differences in this reading order vs.
Also, Blue in the Complete Marvel list is listed after Spectacular , but on this list it would be read before those issues. I was wondering if there is a difference in the reasons for reading them in those orders, or if one of them is incorrect?
Keeping up with these lists must be a huge challenge. Thanks for doing this! Honestly, I think those three are pretty flexible. I hate hate to be this guy who am I kidding, I love it , but in the Spider-Island section the first line reads:. Hi Dave, Thanks for all your hard work!! I just completed reading Amazing Spider-Man through issue I was wondering where these fit in the reading guide. Should I read them before Superior? Hi there- your reading orders are amazing, and I have enjoyed catching up with so many Marvel events!
I was wondering if you were going to do one for Spider-verse. This story is so dark that it's hard to believe this is even a Spider-Man story. The tone and tense atmosphere read off much more like a Daredevil story though he does make a cameo or even a Batman story because Spidey is so aggressive in this during his black suit days.
However, the detour from the usual light tone makes the story feel all the fresher. There was nothing quite like it in Spidey lore up to that point and there still hasn't been another. It's more of a murder mystery as Spidey investigates and hunts down The Sin-Eater, a serial killer who murdered Jean DeWolff, a police detective who held unspoken romantic feelings for Spider-Man.
In the first of many attempts at a redemption arc for Kraven the Hunter, Kraven manages to "kill" Spider-Man he comes back, of course and takes his suit with the idea that he can prove to be an even better hero by becoming the new Spider-Man. Kraven's methods prove too violent for that to be the case. It's a story that personifies the idea that a hero is not defined by their suit, but by the person wearing it and emphasizes just how important Peter Parker in general is to the role of Spider-Man.
This story is the very definition of a classic, as it marks the first time a superhero willingly gives up his hero lifestyle, seemingly inspiring similar redemption arcs in its wake. Not only that, but this story also marks the debut of an iconic villain named Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin. Speaking of iconic, it offers readers an iconic image of Spider-Man dumping his costume in the garbage in unforgettable artwork that has withstood the test of time, even being duplicated by Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2.
It almost feels unfair to call Maximum Carnage a Spider-Man story. Sure, it heavily features Spider-Man with the lead antagonist and title character being a long-running villain who primarily appears in Spidey comics, but both characters are merely pieces of a larger chessboard.
This is more of a Marvel event than anything else, featuring several characters from the universe - including Captain America, Iron Fist, and Firestar just to name a few - when Carnage's buddy Shriek uses her powers to turn the New York population into ravenous murderers. The part crossover was so popular that it even spawned a video game spinoff of the same name.
On the surface and at first glance, this is a simple, wholesome story all about a little boy who happens to be a super-fan of the superhero. Almost to a fault, as he's gone well beyond just collecting action figures. He even goes as far as to collect bullets from crime scenes that Spidey thwarted. This culminates with the boy finally meeting his hero and Peter going as far as to reveal his secret identity and explain his own origin story.
