Can you hardwire a microwave

So again I ask, what's the danger in hardwiring? I agree with the comment about the Granit counter top been change and add a nice carera marble or cheap subway tile backsplash paint the walls put new knobs and u got a new kitchen for under 10g. Ladder required.

None in kitchen- against code. In every bedroom and hall and common room. Interconnected and hardwired. Sound off every 3 months between 1am and 3 am. Have tried system resets, new batteries, new alarms, different brands.

The repeated shrill cruelty to our dogs ears while an elderly couple is attempting dangerous ladder maneuvers in the dead of night is heartbreaking. Gave up after 4 years. Frustrating beyond belief. Took one unit off of the system about 8 months ago after another night of alarms. Our first quiet night sleep past week 12 in years was worth it. We can live with the old fashioned battery ones mounted on the wall that we can reach. Now that I see the fixture, it appears that the power cord is detachable from the fixture.

It appears that the manufacturers are finding better ways to get UL approval for making these more universal now. The ones I am seeing on the internet right now have a way to hardwire them in the back, through the little round knockouts, and the cord can be removed entirely. This gives you a lot less cord on the bottom of the cabinet. It could even be encased in a short piece of tan wire mold if preferred.

At that point, the receptacle can be removed, and a blank cover put on the junction box. The advantage other than having less inside the cabinet is that if that receptacle is controlled by a light switch somewhere else in the room, you would not be allowed to use a dimmer at that light switch. It is against code to dim a receptacle because you might fry any other appliances that someone might unknowingly plug into it. It is also against code to hack a UL listed cord assembly like that.

However, that doesn't necessarily make it unsafe if the polarity was double checked after they did that, but I'd bet that it isn't even a polarized plug. It might be good to know if the original one was polarized. General-use dimmer switches shall be used only to control permanently installed incandescent luminaires unless listed for the control of other loads and installed accordingly.

The question was asked years ago and all decisions no doubt made but I do have some experience. I had a Dacor gas cooktop in another house.

I loved it and had no problems. I had 2 Jenn Aire ranges-nothing but problems-using the self clean feature destroyed the motherboard more than once, the downdraft blew out the burners, the seal on the oven door never sealed properly. They would not replace it. I now have a gas Kitchen Aid pro style. I love the appearance-a cheerful but sophisticated yellow, the cooktop is practical-has a wok use burner, a high boil, a simmer etc. Issues: no timer unless you program your smart phone.

This is one of the stupider and more annoying engineering decisions I can think of. Phones are dirty in general. Your hands get dirty when cooking. Think of the endless opportunities to either wash your hands until they are chapped beyond belief or merrily transfer germs from device to cooking utensils. Also it takes significant time for all that swiping and fiddling. Some people love it. I hate it. My daughter also pointed out that the microwave has a timer.

Who knew? The oven is shockingly cramped as to vertical space as the broiler comes down quite a distance. This makes for excellent broiling though. You could not get a large turkey in there. Take my word for it. I am older and no longer have the strength hands, wrists, back, knees-on some of us they all go out eventually I cannot do it so the turkey issue does not affect my satisfaction with the stove.

I buy cut up pieces now and the whole operation is fine. But for those who want the gloriously presented browned bird on a platter this oven is not for you. As to self cleaning my long experience is that this high heat, high energy operation is not good for the computer components in your stove, not good for the oven seal and drives you out of the house due to the extreme heat for several hours.

I buy the fume free Easy Off. I only need to use it a couple of times a year and it is not so onerous. It works as well as the fumy one. They also suggest that you put a roasting pan full of water on high heat for a couple of hours and then wipe it down. Is it not possible to recess the outlet? Hendricus: Thanks. I didn't know about the recessed outlets. Might solve the problem. Old and not convenient does not mean it is not code compliant.

This only require replacing the receptacle device itself and not rewiring anything. We follow the code as a matter of ethics and safety. So for those who helped: Thanks!
