There is always a chance they'll abandon the nest but it's less likely if there are squabs in the nest.

If the plant is in a semi-shaded area you can decide what you want most, the plant or the dove nest. An idea for the future is to place a hanging basket just for the doves with plastic foliage linning the outside edge for cover.

In the initial stages of incubation, both birds produce pigeon milk, a milk-like substance, from the surrounding plants to feed the nestlings. The fluid contains the necessary nutrients, such as proteins that are required for quick growth, and they are fed directly from the plants by the parents.

The pigeon milk is fed to the young doves for the first few days after they're hatched.
