She knew! But hmm Ann Margaret! His home was wonderful! I think it is a great blessing to be able to pray at his grave and place flowers! Very hard to lose him! His addiction killed him and he was stubborn without his mom! Wish he had gotten a better doctor for help , he was physically ill!
So sad! I will always love him, his music and family! So sad about grandson! Love Pricilla and her family so much! Just feel I kinow them in spirit! Thank them for keeping this place for all of us and them! Hope I can go there someday soon! I wish! Money is a problem now retired and health!
Hi Carol, Welcome and lovely to meet you. My mum was called Carol: Yes, he loved Pricilla despite their challenges. Seeing his grave is really sad, it moves you. I do hope you get to visit — I really do, you would love it. Then The Beatles added screaming. We will never see another celebrity as generous as Elvis. He was a gift-giving saint to many. He was lucky to have had 42 years with us. I remember watching his last TV Special June Yes, he was the first to sing black music and the Beatles sure did start the screaming trend.
A couple of years ago i had the privelege of visiting Graceland and i did get emotional and took every picture that i could to share. The love of my life and I at the time rode on a motorcycle from Kansas City and i enjoyed the trip except for the long ride on a bike!
When we arrived in Memphis the first place we visited was The visitor Center which is a great place to start when arriving. They have some souvinars and helped with maps and was full of knowledge about Memphis. I enjoyed it and gave been a fan since i was very young!
Thank you. It hit me a bit harder than I expected — so tissues are required! Wow, you rode there on a motorcycle from Kansas — how romantic xxx I hope you get to visit again, and thanks for stopping by. I was disappointed in your article.
You are obviously not an Elvis fan. I had the privilege of being an Elvis fan. I saw him 10 times in person. Kathleen, What a pointless and ridiculous comment. I never got to see him because he was long gone before I had the chance.
Now, had you read the article that would have been apparent. Troll on…. I have been to Graceland 11 times. But my number 1 favorite artist is and will always be Elvis. I used to be a professional impersonator. I even have dreamed multiple times about living there. I live only 3 hours away in Arkansas. There has never been and will never be anyone better than Elvis Aron Presley. Hi Wesley, I am so jealous — 11 times wow! And, I love that you appreciate this music at such a young age.
I actually carried my mom through the jungle room because she was so sick with cancer at the time but she wanted all of us kids to see Graceland as a memory before she passed and we made that wish come true. I never got to see him in concert or in person but would have loved too. But my mom got to see him in person before he ever became famous.
She lived at lauderdale courts and he use to come over and sing religious songs to her now and then. Elvis also worked as an usher at the theater and ushered my mom and her date into the show one time. Hi David, What a wonderful experience. My mom passed from cancer so really respect you carrying your mom through the jungle room. I too never got to see him perform, and I would cut my right arm off to see him if it were possible.
I am glad your mom got to see him perform — and she got ushered by him — WOW!!!!! What stories you must have: Thank you for sharing…. It was worth every mile. Hi Jack — WOW!! So jealous….. I have been there twice. The last time I was there, I remember them saying that the upstairs was off limits because when Elvis was alive it was off limits to visitors.
Only family was allowed upstairs. Because of this it will never be opened to the public as long as Lisa has a say they said. The day I was there Tom Petty was also there. Just showed how much of a influence he had. Hi Dustin, Wow, Tom Petty was there as well?
You are spot-on, it shows the influence he had and still does to this day. I went this past April for my birthday. It was a present to myself! I think even more so after my visit. It was an amazing time and more awesome to say I went! Definitely a most do! I will most definitely be back! I totally agree, he is the King and I like you am still in awe : Nikki. Previous Next. Elvis received his first guitar at eleven; it was a gift from his mother.
In he made this first demo record at Sun Studios. In , Presley was drafted into the U. He served for two years and was discharged on March 5, To this day, Presley remains the best-selling solo artist ahead of Michael Jackson and Madonna! Sales estimates range from million to 1 billion in sales. The King only played five concerts outside the U. All five were in Canada in His last concert was in June , in Indianapolis, Indiana. On August 16, , Elvis died at Graceland.
He was only 42 years old. So we enter and boom. Can I tell you, speechless! Breath When you enter, you face the iconic staircase that any historian could peg, and instantly you can see the dining room to the left and the living room to the right. Elvis Collectables. Gracelands Pool Room Directly across from the media room is a pool room billiard room reminiscent of a bad trip gone wrong. Outside Grounds of Graceland As you leave the inside of the Graceland mansion, you will go outside.
The Iconic Graceland Pool Elvis installed the kidney-shaped pool in Due to a graverobbing attempt, both Elvis and his mom were moved to Graceland. I did not know before I visited Graceland that he was laid to rest here and that you could view his grave. I am not sure how I feel about this. On the one side, I can see that people want to pay their respects; it must be difficult for the family on the other side. In addition to Elvis, the following family members also rest here:.
Closing Thoughts We spent almost a whole day at Graceland. Lastly, one visit to Graceland is not enough for me, and I know I will return.

It goes well beyond the signatures on the sidewalk, the private racquetball court, and high above the wall of gold records. Do you hear this!? Like his status as a police officer, some of the crazy things he did with his airplane, and the fact that Elvis Presley was half a Smith okay, that one was just for me.
Wait—just kidding—there are actually 2. All I can say is: You thought you knew Elvis Presley, but you have no idea. I mean, I have one that I drive and I love it. I do, however, love the old, rainbow-colored cars of yore and can really appreciate a bench seat and an analog radio dial. This, all to say that the automobile museum at Graceland is really swell. Here you can also see my favorite, my precious, the famous pink Cadillac. Among them is the jumpsuit—the one that has inspired so many Halloween costumes and Las Vegas wedding ceremonies.
To see these—arguably the most famous outfits in pop culture—in person, with nothing but a piece of glass separating your face from something Elvis Presley wore with his own body to change history, is truly awesome. Graceland was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in and designated a National Historic Landmark in —making it one of only four in Memphis.
Can the Eiffel Tower say that? Not only is Graceland one of the most popular tourist attractions in the U. Would Memphis be what it is today if Elvis lived in, say, Milwaukee instead? Visiting Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower would be foolish. Going to Agra, India and not stopping by the Taj Mahal would be ridiculous. Visiting Pisa and not pretending to hold up a leaning tower would be… well actually that would be the sane thing to do. Elvis went from being born into a dirt poor family in Tupelo, Mississippi to being one of the biggest rockstars to ever live.
He took risks, he never gave up, and he had one hell of a good time as a result. The story of Elvis Presley is chock full of inspiration we can all use in our own lives. What may be even more inspiring than how he rose to stardom, is what he did with it.
Throughout his career Elvis remained a devout philanthropist, with parts of the Graceland experience dedicated to his giving back. He is known as a truly great and genuine guy to everyone that knew him and he stayed humble, even as he buckled himself into his private airplane with 24k gold seat belts. I can only hope people will talk about me the way they talk about Elvis after I earn my first billion.
Elvis was a man of firsts and of mosts. He has more Top hits than any other artist, still to this day total, 80 of those in the Top He has the most weeks spent at 1 on the Billboard charts And his televised Aloha from Hawaii concert was the first ever entertainment special to be broadcast live around the world via satellite… to an audience of between 1 — 1. That kind of success deserves at least a minimal show of respect.
None of us will ever reach that level of professional success and celebrity. Not that I think so little of my dear readers, but sitting around reading this blog is not going to catapult you to international stardom. Elvis was a nester and his home was his favorite place. He molded it and shaped it and covered it in green shag and mirrors. To visit Graceland is to get an intimate look into the life and mind of one extraordinary person.
